An evening of sharing inspirational stories of women cycling.

Wondering about your next cycling adventure or looking to find inspiration from the tales of ground breaking female cyclists.  The Women + Wheels evening, hosted by Edinburgh Road Club is the place to be. Tickets include a hot and cold finger buffet and there will be a cash bar available during the evening.

The line up of speakers includes:

World Bike Girl, Ishbel Holmes – Adventure Cyclist, Author and Blogger

The author of Me, My Bike and a Street dog called Lucy.  Originally a velodrome sprinter for the Iranian National women’s team and British masters sprint champion, Ishbel set off on the adventure of a lifetime to cycle the world, solo across 20 countries, rescuing street dogs along the way.  She shares her experiences through public speaking and her blog called, World Bike Girl.  Reflecting on her own life, she hopes to inspire people to use their negative experiences to propel them into positive futures and encourage social change.

Shani Bloch, Olympic Cyclist

After taking off a decade to raise her children, at the age of 37 she represented Israel at the 2016 Olympics in the 141 km women’s road race. She was the first Israeli road cyclist of either gender to compete in the Olympic games since 1960.

Suzanne Forup – Cycling UK’s head of development in Scotland

Suzanne is Head of Development Scotland for Cycling UK, leading a portfolio of projects across Scotland that enable people to get pedalling for transport, leisure or adventure. Suzanne is the co-founder of Women’s Cycle Forum Scotland, alongside cycle campaigner Sally Hinchcliffe, a membership organisation that aims to ensure that the diversity of women’s voices are heard in cycling – from policy and planning to infrastructure and projects. A keen cycle tourist and campaigner, Suzanne writes about her cycling adventures with her son and others at www.backonmybikeblog.com

Diane Clayton – Club Coach, Developer of Women’s Cycling and President of West Lothian Clarion Cycling Club

Diane has always ridden bikes, starting on BMX as a kid and then picking up on the new fangled MTB trend in the 90's. A late convert to the road and even later to coaching. She started helping out at her kids local bike club and now also coaches women to increase confidence in road biking and MTBing. As a public health professional she is passionate about physical activity and keeping teenagers active.

Naomi Freireich – European and UK 24-hour MTB Champion

Naomi is an IT Project Manager from Edinburgh. She came to cross country mountain biking in her mid-thirties through a chance encounter in the office changing rooms with a like-minded girl and fell in love with the sport for everything it gave her: strength, adventures and some healthy ‘me time’. She has two children, two stepchildren and one very understanding husband! Naomi is the current European and UK 24-hour Mountain Bike Champion and athlete for GORE® Wear and sponsored by USE/Exposure Lights. In her spare time (yes, she still has a little) she like nothing more than heading outside for another crazy adventure.

Anna Flynn – British Youth MTB Champion, ERC

Anna was the British youth mountain bike champion in 2018 and is a member of the British Cycling mountain bike development squad. She has also competed for Great Britain at cyclocross and as a sixteen year old was selected for the 2018 U23 European Championships in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and the 2019 U23 World Championships in Bogense. Anna is a member of Edinburgh Road Club and started cycling as Go Ride club member; she progressed from regional to national and international level with support from her club, Scottish Cycling and British Cycling. Her ambition is to be a professional cyclist.
